About Check My Rent Rise

Check My Rent Rise helps private tenants in England work out whether a rent increase notice follows the rules, and what to do if it doesn't. Since 1 May 2026 the Renters' Rights Act has changed how rent increases work - most tenants now have stronger rights, but the rules are easy to miss.

How we work

  • Sourced: every rule in our checker is linked to GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, Shelter or Citizens Advice.
  • Honest about uncertainty: where the law isn't clear-cut, we say "may be invalid - check with Shelter or Citizens Advice" rather than guess.
  • Private by design: your answers stay in your browser. We don't keep them.
  • Not a law firm: we provide information and self-help documents, not legal advice. Free advice is available from Shelter and Citizens Advice.

Who runs this site

Our checker and documents are self-help information, not legal advice, and are not reviewed by a solicitor. For advice on your situation, contact Shelter or Citizens Advice.
